Nanga Parbat+Red Bull+ Bargiel

It's Steep-Skiing Video Time with Drones and Red Bull.

It’s Friday. Red Bull released some excellent video in the past 24 hours. So why not blurb about Andrzej Bargiel and his Nanga Parbat ski?

For more information on that descent, you can read here.

Back in June, Bargiel completed what is called the first continuous ski descent of the 8,126-meter peak (without supplemental oxygen). In our July 3 write-up, we included an IG post that diagrammed the route; here it is:

While we don’t like to get caught up in hype and conjecture, it seems that Bargiel is, in some form or fashion, positioning himself to be the first person to ski the world’s 14 8,000-meter peaks: Hic Sunt Leones, anyone?

So far, Bargiel has competed the following 8,000ers.

Shishapangma (8,027 m)

Manaslu (8,163 m)

Broad Peak (8,051 m)

K2 (8,611 m)

Gasherbrum II (8,035 m)

Gasherbrum I (8,080 m)

Everest (8,849 m)

Nanga Parbat (8,126 m)

And we should note, as many of you know, this is one form of snow sliding. Let’s call it methodical and technical—in a don’t lose an edge kind of way. Stay calm. Be precise. There is an altogether opposite end of the spectrum of snow sliding that is also technical and methodical, but decidedly faster. Both have their place. Here’s an example of that type of skiing—also a cool feature from Red Bull. Enjoy the weekend.
