You may be this person. If not, you have been around this person. The need-good-coffee-right-____ing-now! kind of person. Such needs, if not met right then and there, could result in anarchy or mutiny, or at the very least, a partner (or yourself) lacking the stoke to move. No Normal Coffee Paste
Coffee paste? Yeah it's a thing.

Straight up No Normal coffee: In a tube and made for the outdoors.

Have you read Terry Pratchett’s Monstrous Regiment? Coffee deprivation features heavily in that satirical fantasy novel.

I have not. And coffee deprivation seems cruel and unusual, and downright grim. But you have piqued my interest. I hope you had a good summer Slim.

So typically European to think that 3.5 oz constitutes a cup of coffee rather than a meager ration. 7 North American servings per tube.
Also important for early morning ski missions: how quickly does consumption of No Normal coffee paste allow one to evacuate one’s bowels at the trailhead?

Have you tried Megadalia d’Oro instant espresso? It has been around a long time, is reasonably easy to find in grocery stores in CO and is much cheaper than much of the newer ‘fancy’ instant coffee.
My go to is a 12oz thermos, instant milk shaken in a light empty plastic bottle and this powder added to hot water to taste. It ends up a little like a latte.-
Hey Timothy, yes, I have. And that is some very good instant.

Other than the pricy pricy instants, my preferred backcountry coffee is the Trader Joe’s Instant Cold Brew. Not as harsh tasting as normal instant and can be made hot or cold!

NoNormal seems to have a unique niche in that spreadable coffee paste consistency. I’ve had it on graham crackers and on a baguette, which is something I can’t pull off with Swift (my fav instant for backcountry trips). I find it a bit bitter, but my mother-in-law said it was the smoothest coffee she’s had at our house. No accounting for taste, but it’s worth a try in my opinion.
