A voluntary recall has been issued for specific BD Neve Strap Crampons.

The freeze-thaw cycle is in full effect. It is crampon season. As a result, a BD crampon voluntary recall is on our radar.

In short, BD has issued a voluntary recall for their Neve Strap Crampons (green 2024 version). This voluntary recall is not related to the Neve Pro Crampon.

BD adds, “This recall affects all green 2024 Neve Strap Crampons (style #400073) that were sold between January and May 2024 (see specific details below). Also included in the recall are the Neve Strap Binding Accessory Kit (style #400683) and Neve Strap Heel Cup Screw & Nuts (style #400687). It does not apply to the Neve Pro Crampon models or previous orange-colored versions of the Neve Strap Crampons.

“The reason for the voluntary recall is related to the screws which connect the plastic heel cup to the aluminum heel unit of the Neve Strap Crampon, which can loosen and allow the heel cup to detach from the crampon, posing a fall hazard. There have been three reported instances of this happening in the field with no reported injuries.”

THR has not reviewed or used the Neve Strap Crampons or the strap or heel cup screws and nuts. However, the Neve Pro Crampon, which Gavin has used/tested, accepts the strap binding accessory kit/heel cup screws and nuts. Take notice if you have purchased the Neve Strap Crampon in question or modified your Neve Pro Crampons with the strap kit.

Below, we will detail how you can find the relevant info on your crampons to determine if they are affected by the voluntary recall. Here’s the pertinent information: “All green Neve Strap Crampons (style #400073) sold between January and May 2024 with date codes 01-2021, 05-2022, 07-2023, 01-2024, and SS1271 are addressed with this voluntary recall.”
